While on a field support call working with a customer who purchased a Spectra Ranger 7 with Survey Pro attempted to connect to Topcon Hyper V GPS units. The GPS units were able to connect via Bluetooth and be configured but Base setup was unable to be completed and a Rover was not able to be run. After a call to Topcon, with end to end trouble shooting, it was determined that the customer would have to buy a Third Party Option Authorization File or *.oaf in order to run the existing GPS units with a the new collector and Survey Pro. The *.oaf file needs to be installed, after purchase onto each GPS unit by a Topcon Dealer. This will allow for full functionality.
Moving forward this may become a trend as customers update their aging fleets, piece by piece. Smaller outfits will be ones to watch out for.
