GPS receivers are very similar to computers in that they use preinstalled software and firmware to properly operate and give the end user precise results. Much like a computer, they may also require updates to their firmware to do everything from fix a possible programming bug or even upgrade their already incredible capabilities. If you find that your GPS receiver is in need of a firmware upgrade you can follow these easy steps.
Download Trimble Installation Manager here http://tim.trimbleaccess.com/TrimbleInstallationManager.msi
To update a receiver
For a list of receivers you can update using Trimble Installation Manager, see Trimble Installation Manager for Windows.
-
Start Trimble Installation Manager.
Trimble Installation Manager automatically connects to the Internet, updates itself if required and then checks for available updates for the connected device.
- Connect the receiver to the computer or tablet using the appropriate cable. The connected receiver appears as a COM port.
- Turn on the receiver.
- If the receiver icon is not automatically selected in the navigation bar, tap the receiver icon and then tap Connect.
-
If required, select the serial port on the computer that the cable is connected to and then tap OK.
-
In the Install updates tab, select the items to install. The color of an item indicates its installation status. See Device status.
If settings have been configured for the radio by your Trimble distributor, the Receiver radio check box is available.
- Tap Install.
-
Tap Finish.
Depending on which receiver you have purchased will determine which cable you can use to connect to your pc.
